Before the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualification round matches against the national teams of Liechtenstein, Iceland and Romania, the head coach of the Armenian national team Joaquin Caparros published the list of players invited to the national team. Among them was the 17-year-old defender Urartu FC Erik Simonyan.

Being called-up to the national team, Simonyan recorded a new stat, he is the youngest player ever invited to the Armenian national team from Urartu FC. At the time of receiving the invitation, Simonyan was 17 years 9 months and 5 days old.

The youngest player to receive playing time in the national team from Urartu FC was Sargis Karapetyan, who made his debut in the national team at the age of 18 years 9 months and 18 days.

The youngest player to play for the Armenian national team was Balep Ndmbuk, who made his debut in the national team at the age of 16 years, 3 months and 25 days.
