JONEL DESIRE: "I AM FROM HAITI, BUT ARMENIA IS MY HOME"

17/08/2020

During the summer transfer window, Haitian NT striker Jonel Desire joined Urartu FC. This player is well known to us with his performances at Lori FC and his impressive goals. Jonel considers the transfer to Urartu a step forward in his career and assures that he will do everything to be useful for the team. We spoke with the 23-year-old striker:

- You have been training with Urartu for several days, even played one match, in which it took you only three minutes to score your first goal. What do you think about your new team?

- The first thing that I noticed right away was that there is unity in the team. The guys are very close to each other. This situation is an advantage for any team. Everything that happens outside the field is directly related to what happens on the field. Yes, it took me 3 minutes to score my first goal for Urartu, but before that the guys organized a very good attack, which, fortunately for our team, we were able to effectively complete.

- Are you already familiar with the potential of the team, what is Urartu capable of in the new season?

- We have a good team. To be honest, it was a surprise for me how Urartu finished the previous season. I have played against this team many times and I must say it has never been easy. Now we have a good team, there is only one thing left - to work hard, start the championship as best as possible, so that in the future we can realize all the goals that we have for this season.

- In the first round we will meet with your former team Lori FC. Will this match be special for you?

- Over the years of playing at Lori FC, I have gained a lot of experience and I must honestly say that it was not easy to make a decision to leave this team, but this is football, now I am a player of Urartu. I am obliged to do everything for which a contract was signed with me.

- How would you sum up your performances at Lori FC?

- I am grateful to this team. I say this not only from the point of view of football, because playing in the Vanadzor team gave me the opportunity to create a family and have children. In other words, the years spent at this club have changed the course of my life significantly. But you always have to change something. Urartu is a new challenge for me, in my thoughts now only this club. I have to work hard to help Urartu achieve all the goals.

- What are your goals for the new season?

- I want our team to show high-level football, become the champion of the Premier League and win the Cup. These are the goals I have now.

- Haiti is your homeland, but Armenia also played a big role in your life, because here you created a family. Can we say that Armenia is also your homeland?

- Armenia is my second home. I feel good in this country. Even if one day I have to leave, I want everyone to know that Armenia is my second homeland, and I feel at home here.

- We know that you can speak in Armenian, what words do you know?

- Ask something, we'll see if I can answer (smiles). It may not work, but I know the most important words: train a lot, play well, forward-forward-forward ... I think that's enough (laughs).

- What can you say about the level of the Armenian championship?

- Season after season, the level of the championship increases. I want to play in the championship of the highest level, but in my case there is no stagnation, because, again, the Armenian championship is becoming more competitive from year to year. Everything that you could easily do in the previous season becomes very difficult in the next one.

- You are a member of Haiti national team. When you are in Haiti they ask you about Armenian football, what do you answer?

- I assure you there is no need to tell. They all know very well. From there they watch the championship matches, they are interested, therefore, when I talk about Armenian football in Haiti, people are mostly familiar with the topic of conversation. Very often, fans complain that the level of the Armenian championship is not good, they say, Jonel, you should play in high level championships. They are fans, they can say whatever they want, but professional people never say that, because they perfectly understand that the Armenian championship has a really good level.
