Maksim Mashnev was born on January 12, 1993 in the Russian city of Irkutsk. He started playing football at the age of 7. He made his first football moves at the "Record" school in Irkutsk. He began his professional career in 2012 at Baikal Football Club, in which he spent 4 seasons. In the 2014/15 season, together with Baikal, he became the winner of the Russian Professional Football League Zone East. He spent the first part of the season 2015/16 at Baikal FC, then moved to Arsenal Tula. In that season, Arsenal took second place in the Football National League, earning a place in the Premier League, but Mashnev had changed his club and continued his career at the Luch Vladivostok Football Club. At that club, he spends three seasons.
In the 2019/20 season, Mashnev signs a contract with Chayka Football Club. After spending 1 season with this team, he took part in 23 fixtures and become the author of two goals.
In July 2020, Mashnev signed a contract with Urartu Football Club .
